On January 28th, we held our 5th Switcheroo. Students enjoyed a steel pan drum show courtesy of Salahpan, as a kick-off to Black History Month. While students enjoyed the show, teachers were engaged in professional development with our Inclusive Education Consultant, Devon Warnock. They learned to pinpoint student learning gaps and plan targeted interventions. You can always refer back to our Facebook page for details but we’ve included a couple of pics here too just incase. This month’s Switcheroo is taking place on Feb. 25th and the Montreal Steppers will be visiting to share the rich history, rhythm, and movement of traditional stepping with our students.. PD for teachers will involve streamlining teaching practices across all cycles – more info to come.
Did you know that NFSB has a Student Coalition? Each school selects student representatives who meet several times a year with peers from across the board. Together, they share what’s happening in their schools, learn from one another’s experiences, and collaborate on meaningful initiatives. Along the way, students develop leadership skills, confidence, and a stronger voice in their school communities.
Here at Howick, our School Coalition has taken an exciting next step by launching a Student Council made up of students from Grades 4, 5, and 6. This group will play an active role in shaping school life, sharing student perspectives, and helping plan initiatives that matter to our students.
Just ahead you’ll see a few pics from their last meetup on February 3rd.
Student Coalition is starting a School Council and it’s goals are to:
📣 Give students a voice
🌟 Help make our school a great place
🤝 Make sure everyone feels welcome
We are currently in the recruitment phase but plan to do great things in the weeks and months ahead. Stay tuned!
